Jacobean Furniture

Jacobean Furniture came into existence during the reign of King James (1603-1688) but became popular at the time of Charles I, successors of King James, who is known more sophisticated than his father. The striking similarity with Elizabethan style- highly ornamented, sturdy in construction and heavy carvings with wide number of animal faces, which confirmed the sincerity of accomplished furniture makers of that era, made it popular though they were quite uncomfortable. Jacobean furniture was also called as Early American furniture. Wax layer was used to conserve ripened dark oak luster. After the civil war broke, numerous wealthy people left England and puritan rule overtook the leadership. They captured the furniture market but the design became increasingly less ornamented due to lack of interest.
