Elizabethan Furniture

Elizabethan style, the name derived from Queen Elizabeth (1558-1603), was remarkably beautiful in English architecture and developed between the period of gothic and renaissance. Elizabethan style, often heavily carved and massive, borrowed its decorative design from Italian, Gothic, and Flemish designs.

1.Heavy bulbous tables with carved ornamentation such as gadrooning, nulling and acanthus leaves
2.Inlaid fruitwood
3.Melon bulb turning
4.Sophisticated four poster beds with solid or draped testers
5.Tables with 4 or 6 bulbous legs with stretcher rails at the bottom as a footrest to keep feet of the floor rushes

Its highly decorative architectural design made it quite expensive that only wealthy class could afford it. Now Elizabethan style is extremely rare and it can only be seen in mansions or museums. Pieces which are found in market place are exceptionally expansible.
